Data transmission like email, chat, web search, etc., over the telephone like at a speed rate of more than 56 kbps is termed as broadband. Initially data was transmitted at a rate of 56 kbps using the dial up modems. Later the research in technologies like DSL, ADSL and SDSL made data to travel at a faster rate and also in a much wider spectrum. Adoption of these technologies by the broadband service providers in UK has allowed us to reach a speed limit of 20 Mbps and also to go wireless.

ISP’s in UK now provide broadband service in every possible means. Most of the country has been using broadband service through telephone lines and fiber optic cables. At present they have introduced wireless broadband, mobile broadband, satellite broadband and PAYG services. The government has is planning to invest more and support the ISP’s to reach an average speed limit of 2mb broadband to all the house holds by 2012.

But other reports say that the achieving this proposal might require a 50p increase in the tax. There are two case that has to analysed in this situation. Few families say that they would buy a house only based on the availability of broadband and telephone line with more feasibility and better speeds. While the rest says that the economic melt down will push them to restrict the use of Internet if there is an extra cost is added to the tax.

Most of the broadband service providers say that measures have been to taken to avoid problems like feasibility and signal strength in case of wireless connections. They also added that the release of the PAY-G services and bundle packages which will have provide broadband for free or at a minimal cost will allow users to access the Internet and also fit within their budget.

The launch of the HYLAS satellite payload which is designed by Avanti Communications, a UK satellite provider is designed to help the government to meet the set target by 2012. This satellite has been sent to ISRO space research center in India where it will be integrated in to the platform and will be ready for launch. This has added some hope for ardent Internet lovers, especially from the rural areas. The satellite broadband is a new technology which will provide high speed Internet service using a broadband dish and modem. It is almost similar to the satellite TV connection.

There are also steps taken to increase the number of wifi spots in the country which will help the users in accessing the Internet for free during the course of their travel. A recent news said that the virgin trains has joined hands with Nomad digital to serve its passenger with wifi access. This service will be made complimentary for the first class passengers and the others has to buy the wifi access passes. T-mobile broadband has also announced that the existing mobile broadband customers can have unlimited access while in the hot spots.

All the new plans and features have created more expectations in the minds of Internet surfers. While a equal number say that they do not want a Internet connection or not satisfied or not affordable, during a survey.

At the age of around 13, the word random becomes symbolic of a quirky coolness that grown ups just don’t understand. Rowntrees understands.

In its latest campaign it’s choosing to go viral, perhaps in the hopes of hitting the teenage market in its own environment, the web, with its own language.

Beardyman, in the video above, is letting his random side out in all his Trigger Happy TV/hidden camera show glory.

This makes for some good viewing.

Everyone knows the best way to engage with an audience or target market is by interacting with them. In this latest viral, Sony have tried to do just that.

Follow the story of this latest viral campaign for the new PS3 title, inFamous. Along the way you’ll find violence, muggings, theft and some clips from the game- clever.

In the game you’ll see how hard it is to be a hero, and how easy it can be to become infamous.

Sony haven’t stopped there with their viral campaign. They’re also offering free downloadable content for your social media profiles. On their website, linked from the game, you’ll find MySpace backgrounds, Facebook profile pictures and AIM icons. Perhaps not the most original viral approach related to social media, the campaign is solid and should spread across the internet like wildfire; creating excitement for the game as it goes.

Boyle's Got Talent but, unfortunately for her, not the crown

The nation’s favourite Scottish lady lost out to Diversity on the Birtian’s Got Talent finale last night. Who would have thought it? The clear favourite from the get-go will not be performing at the Royal Variety Performance, at least not as BGT victor.

More surprisingly, her popularity seems to have dwindled a little online throughout the month.

Boyle’s finale performance (below) is only the 9th most viewed today, surprising considering her previous run on the top spot.

Perhaps the singer lost her place in some public hearts when the story of her alleged anger towards rival acts and journalists was reported?

What’s sure is that an awful lot of bookmakers will certainly be smiling this morning.

And it’s not just Boyle who hasn’t won on the YouTube ratings scale. Diversity, the actual winners of the contest, miss out this morning to Aidan Davis, everyone’s favourite George Sampson of 2009.

Hanging on the tails of the Apprentice’s heavily-mediated coat comes this video remix of good old Sir Alan Sugar.

Power-shots across the London skyline, helicopters, personalised number plates and glass tables aside, Sir Alan is on the Times Rich List and provides entertainment every Wednesday on his show, the Apprentice.

Every week, viewers watch for his acerbic wit and cutting comments that have us laughing, and the next “casualty of the boardroom” close to tears.

Recently, Sir Alan has featured in an advertisement for Lush, the soap and hygiene company, that was not to his tastes.

The advertisement came after Lush was featured in an episode of The Apprentice and was for a new range claiming to be “slightly abrasive but ultimately good for you”. Sir Alan, it would seem, was unsurprisingly unflattered, calling the lawyers in to write a letter to Lush.

The soap company retaliated with a, rather unbelievable, “any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental”- hmm, perhaps not.

In the wake of such a scandal it is hard to imagine anyone wanting to get on the bad side of the business giant. But someone, it would appear, is trying his hardest.

He’s done Harry Potter, Jeremy Clarkson and even David Attenborough, but now Casetteboy has turned his VCR and video-editing software on Sir Alan.

Is Chris Brown really a monster? He's certainly a little insensitive.

There is no medium more powerful than the internet to get an unmediated message to the masses. Somehow, in the wake of the 7/7 bombings, Londoners knew this. Now, Chris Brown knows this.

Rather than a heartfelt message (or perhaps even apology) about the Rihanna assault situation, Brown is making sure that all us “haters” know that he’s not a monster. In the same breath, indeed just before he casually throws down his statement, he also mentions something about a new album.

Whether or not Brown is guilty of assault, he certainly seems guilty of poor PR. From the horses mouth, the first thing we here is a quick ‘Buy my new album, I’m not a monster’- not that sensitive at all Brown, sorry.

Brown-lovers will certainly revel in his comeback. Brown-haters will perhaps use this video message as the next rallying point. Either way, it’s a pretty jerky thing to do.

Just yesterday, People.com reported that Rihanna will be subpoenaed to appear and give evidence in court for Brown’s trial. She will, her lawyer has confirmed, comply with the DA’s wishes and testify. She will also be subject to cross-examination from Brown’s lawyers.

Will she agree with him that Brown “aint no monster”? Only time will tell.

Boyle's Got Talent...and a short temper if you believe the rumours

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Britain’s Got Talent clips are the most viewed videos on YouTube today, this week and indeed this month.

Even less surprisingly, Susan Boyle’s topping the charts. Recent controversy around journalistic altercations and accusations of swearing at fellow contestants aside, Boyle has shot to stardom since her first appearance on the show- appearing on chat shows across the Pond and even getting a mention in South Park.

This month’s most viewed clip isn’t Boyle on the show, however. Instead, The Scottish Daily Record has manage to dredge some footage up from 1984 of Boyle singing in a social club in Motherwell.

Most recently, Boyle has been mentioned in an online viral ad for the Simpsons.

The crude dubbing of what looks like old clips, and the tragic attempt at a Simon Cowell impersonation suggest that this particular ad has been rushed together to ride the crest of the ‘SuBo’ wave. It’s not as impressive or funny as previous reports suggested but it has been mentioned by countless blogs as well as the BBC and other major news websites.

Okay, so he’s not pretty and the smile is a little creepy at times but look past it and he’s got some pretty good things to say.

This video has been heralded as “one of the funniest videos” produced by Downing Street and has been forwarded non-stop this week.

He might not have the charisma of Obama or the popularity of David Cameron but he’s got the substance.

We love Gordon in all his creepy, smileyness and want him to nurse our poorly country back to health.
